As Wahl reloaded his pistol and started off towards their destination, Maiar paused. He looked down at the decapitated soldier, even dead he was somehow still intimidating. The young Revenant turned to look behind him. He had backed into what he thought was a wall but it was just a half-wall made of concrete and rocks, barely a wall at all really. He looked past it to the tree that once stood on the other side. The cut was clean, not even any splintering of the wood. The top half of the trunk laid on the ground behind the stump now.
Maiar shook his head and then turned back towards Wahl and the body of the soldier. He reached into one of the pouches on his utility harness and grabbed a fresh magazine. With the press of a button, the empty mag slipped out from the handle of his gun and fell to the ground. He slid the new mag in until it clicked in place and then pulled back the slide to chamber the first round. He holstered the gun and then crouched down next to the body.
The red haired boy picked up the empty magazine and laid it on RS's chest. Then he moved to stand again. He was about to walk away but he stopped. Maiar looked down at Red Stripe once more, smirked, and then spit on the body. It was a childish act, but also an act of defiance. He won that fight. The victorious get to do things like that. At least that's how he saw it. Of course, he wouldn't admit to the fact that he barely won that fight. Nope. Not going to focus on that. However he got there, he won. Celebration was in order.
Satisfied now, he jogged a bit to catch up with Wahl and continue the long walk back to the front line.
