"R-r-right. O-of c-course. T-to the s-station." Lan managed, Awkwardly helping him as he turned slightly pink. He hoped he hadn't offended the Revenant with the suggestion. He didn't mean to imply anything by it, but what if he thought that Lan was saying he wasn't tough, or that he was somehow weaker with the statement, but maybe this was that time he tried to help the kid with the skinned knee in high school up all over again...? Although there wasn't a trash can close-by, so Meilius would really need to look to find one to stuff him in... Surely not, right? I mean, he was okay with signing now, and he seemed like he had a happy smile... Maybe... he actually liked Lan's presence.
"...U-uhm..." Lan muttered, before looking forward. "I-if I k-knew..." Lan started to stutter, before his nervousness started to fade away as he walked forward with a more determined expression, holding up Meilius resolutely. "I'd been told this was just some way to get corporate sponsors. If I'd known this was just some stupid excuse for sector 3 to watch a human fight a revenant, I would have thrown away my weapon before the battle had begun. I'm so sorry you had to go through this much pain for no reason. That isn't right." Lan would add, before shifting back a little. "...And also, I don't think works with my contract? So... I can actually get some money out of mishandling..." The Cameo trailed, before realizing what he was talking about, and turning a bit more nervous again. He was really talking to a revenant he'd just severely injured about being happy about getting money out of hurting him... what sort of horrible person was he? "n-not that I wanted to p-profit off of... oh god, I'm sorry. That really didn't come out right. I... I meant it. I really didn't want to hurt you." The younger Cameo whined, looking close to tears as he kept going, trying to repay his imagined slight. "I-I p-promise I'll m... I'll make it up. I didn't... I didn't mean it... I didn't..."

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan Everything hurt, everything ached, but Meilius was in high spirits. Perhaps he should be more frustrated when he lost against Lan so handily - and, indeed, it didn't exactly feel right to get beaten when he stepped onto this ring to prove that he wasn't as much of a failure as everyone believed him to be... But, above all else, he managed to acquire a new friend. Maybe. Lan seemed less happy that Meilius turned out to be fine and more concerned that he's wounded the Revenant so much for no reason at all. "Concern" does not even begin to describe him, actually. His voice cracked and stumbled constantly, the blue-haired assassin was overcome by self-hate for having not only left Meilius in such a broken condition, but that he didn't even have a reason to do it. He only fights for money, and couldn't imagine himself wounding a person otherwise - and this fight wasn't for money. For some reason, that fact slipping from Lan's mouth made him even more frightened, as if he said something wrong. Even though he expressed, multiple times, that he didn't mean to hurt anyone as long as it was not a part of his job. That's... well, that's not the perfect life to live by, but it was at least reasonable. For some people, making a living was not a soft task. Lan was clearly not feeling well. Tears were swelling up in his eyes, clearly ones of anguish. Hasn't he said that he won't let anyone else feel terrible as long as he's by their side? Meilius suddenly stopped in his tracks and pulled Lan in, holding the shorter human in a tight hug and patting him on the back for a few seconds, before pulling back with a smile on his face and making a few gestures with his hands to say: Everything's fine.

Lan felt a hand grasp him, and immediately his spine stiffened in fear, a slight shake going through him as he felt certain, for at least a moment, that the Revenant had had enough, and he was about to be thrown into a wall or slapped off his feet by an angry human being full of spite for Lan's awful treatment of him... He'd worked hard for that, he supposed.
This, of course, left him incredibly surprised when Meilius pulled him full-on into a hug, his face being one of complete confusion and... while not pulling back, he looked uncertain about what to do with this sort of contact. Eventually, as Meilius let go, Lan gave a long sniff as he choked back some tears, looking a little bit better... though others had already spilled across his tears. "I-I'm s-sorry... Here you are hurt, a-and I'm the one c-crying..." Lan offered with a sad, ashamed smile. "...That's pretty s-selfish of me... I'll j-just..." Lan started, before taking a deep breath and trying his best not to feel crushed by his own stupidity. "...H-help you to the, uhm, med-room!"

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan Lan was, understandably, confused, surprised, and a whole slew of other adjectives at the same time - he probably couldn't have described how he felt right after the hug, either. He continued explaining himself and dragging himself through the metaphorical dirt, explaining how it's terrible that he's worrying over Meilius so much while the blonde Revenant has been so friendly and open to him... In the end, however, Lan stopped crying, and was clearly feeling any better. That mattered more than anything else, especially not the bleeding wounds and the pain he's been suffering - pain is only temporary, but making a friend is for forever. Seeing Lan's flustered speech finally break and the young assassin offer to simply bring Meilius to the medical bay instead, the blonde Revenant struck a faint smile and nodded. Helped up by his peer, he followed after him towards the bay. Hopefully, Revenants can't pass out from losing too much blood on the way there...

Lan's expression got a little better, though he did quickly pull out a handkerchief to blow his nose from his vest pocket after a few sniffles too many. "I... uhm, so w-what's... your story? Or... uhm, I guess it's a bit much to ask you to sign while in, uhm... while you are how you are right now." Lan added, clearly feeling a little guilty. "S-so, uhm... maybe I should ask something a l-little simpler... uhm, I feel kind of terrible for this whole thing still... c-can I at least buy you lunch somewhere nice? P-p-price is no object, since my contracts kind of, uhm... got me a lot of m-money. A-and I prefer keeping it f-fluid, or.. into Investments, s-since it's not the most reputable money t-to have." Lan would admit after a moment with a nervous shrug. "A-assassins are most often caught by the IRS or the FBI, a-and I do a lot of o-operations in America, s-so I think I'm probably being monitored. a-at least they haven't found out about my bitcoins!" He'd add cheerfully.

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan It didn't matter how calm, collected and focused Lan may have been during their battle - met with Meilius acting kind towards him, he turned into an indecipherable mess. His line of thought jumped between asking what the young Revenant's story was, to offering to take him our for lunch and pay for them both, to explaining that assassins such as himself are hunted down by the FBI and the IRS and thus, even though they are well-paid, they cannot spend money willy-nilly. It was almost getting too overwhelming - Meilius managed to tell what Lan was trying to ask him, however. So, right as he stepped into the medical station, he gave the young assassin a nod and waved a brief goodbye to him.
The secrecy of CORPSE and each one of their agents meant that making their way out of the headquarters and getting back into normal society was a serious hassle, a symphony of requests, approvals and document checks. Thankfully, for those who would rather not spend an hour or two before they can reach a McDonald's, the facilities offered amenities of their own, including a small restaurant operated by the Revenants themselves. And that's where, ultimately, the two former opponents ended up. There was still a slight sting remaining in his chest, but compared to the agony earlier, it was really nothing. The doctors informed him that there was going to be a rather nasty scar running across his chest from here on out - he hasn't had the time to check and see it, however. Lan's got his attention for now. Recalling his question from earlier, Meilius began scribbling a few things down on his notebook, before he turned it around and displayed the text: I don't really have an interesting story to tell. I just got hit by a truck, refused to die and ended up here.

Lan shifted in his seat, sighing as they waited for the CORPSE restaurant's food to get there. Lan had ordered relatively light stuff, avoiding too much grease - it tended to upset his stomach - and thus, the meal he'd ordered was actually something grabbed off the 65+ list.
It's not like his stomach needed any extra anxiety thrown into it after the Doctor's gave Meilius the news, anyways. The idea that he'd scarred this nice man, disfigured him for life maybe, and he was still being so nice to him...
It almost drove Lan to tears, but the small kid held them back as they began talking, focusing on what Meiliu had to scribble.
"Oh. A truck? That sounds awful. D-did you come out of it al..." The boy muttered, before trailing off, realizing that... Well, no, he didn't come out quite alright at all.
"...Well, I'm glad you lived. even if only kinda. I'm..." Lan trailed off, before looking to the nearest window. "...I am sorry about the scar on your chest... That was a very needless deathmatch, wasn't it?" Lan asked with a frown. The whole incident didn't sit right with him. not the people who ordered it, or the actions.
"...I've at least learned to question my superiors the next time they order me to do something out of my contract, and refuse orders like this... but you should never have had to suffer for that. And... now I've left a mark on you I can't take back..."
Lan sighed, looking at his food, before finally continuing.
"...I guess I don't have much of an interesting story either. I lived a pretty normal life, but I might have been bullied a bit... a lot... as a kid. My cousin, Prima, took me in, and she was a professional assassin. I didn't realize she was buttering up a mark, and when he went to take advantage of her..."
Lan struggled to continue, as if trying to remember something distant, details showing in his mind. "I took out my pocketknife, and handled the problem." He finally finished. "and then, when Prima saw I just kinda knew how to do that, she trained me to do it too. And that's... how I end up here, more or less."

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan Lan, once again, resorted to apologies - he was sorry for everything. Sorry for the fact that Meilius got ran over by a truck, sorry for the scar he left on the teenage Revenant's chest, and sorry for the needless death match he got the two of them pulled into. A frown ever so slightly crept up on Meilius's face, a slight one, but one still very easily noticeable. None of this was Lan's fault, after all - he wasn't there when Meilius got hit by a truck, he couldn't have possibly known that the two of them will have to battle so fiercely, and the fact that Meilius got wounded so gravely was only his fault, not anyone elses. And yet, Lan took everything upon himself, and was still tearing up about it... What's he supposed to do, though? He can't yell at Lan to stop... The blue haired assassin continued by explaining the path he took to become an assassin. As it turns out, he didn't live the best life as a kid, until he got taken up by his cousin Prima and ended up trained in the arts of assassination. And that, ultimately, was the reason he ended up here. Meilius picked up his cinnamon bun and enthusiastically dug into it, finishing it with one hand while using the other to make a few hand signs, speaking: So what do you do now? Just murder stuff?

Lan quickly put up a hand. "...Well, it's not exactly murder. It's assassination... okay, so, that is definitely murder. but..." Lan took a breath, quickly a little more focused as he seemed to be trying to think of terms.
"...So the other month, I ended up having to go deal with some people for a non-corpse operation. there's some special interest groups funded to deal with, well, pedophilia rings that have a little too much draw to be dealt with in the open. Prima got the job, but she passed it along to me, since it was a little... below priority." Lan would say.
"The mission did, uhhh, go a little sour, admittedly, and I only managed to get the kill after I scrambled away long enough to pick up a spritzer bottle of Febreze air effects and spray him in the eyes with it." Lan would add with a sheepish smile. "...They were a little more ready for me than I expected, and my knife got slapped out of my hands... anyways..."
Lan would give a little shrug. "I don't mean this in a mean way, but I always kinda saw death as sort of an inevitability, so... I never felt it was that bad a way to go with my skills. I use my abilities where I think it can help people have a good life... that's why I figured joining up with CORPSE might help the world. I don't really do revenant assassination, but i deal with defectors, corrupt people using the funds of CORPSE to their own ends, or just the more mundane groups that occasionally feel like tangling with super-strong ghost people for some reason." He'd add with a nervous look.
"I don't know if it's the best thing to do with my life, but... it's just kinda, what I was born for."

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan Assassination. The willful murder of others, no matter how twisted or corrupted they might be, in the name of not a greater ideal they might want to protect, but mere monetary exchange. Lan explained himself, but his explanation diverted little from that definition. He stopped pedophiles, defectors, corrupt embezzlers, but he never shied away from the fact that he had to put an end to their lives while stopping them. Meilius's eyes glanced to the side, a pensive expression formed on his face. Sometimes, death was a certainty, just like Lan believed. Sometimes, there really is no option but to kill the other or face death yourself. And yet... as long as you are not on the razor edge of death, why should you give up on the possibility that the person on the other side might still have some good in their heart? That you don't need an assassin to get them back on the right path, just learn to listen them out? Meilius turned back towards Lan and began "speaking" with hand signs again. Do you think there's no other choice for them? That the people you assassinated couldn't have stopped doing... whatever they were doing if you listened them out?

Lan's face looked a little strained as his smile fell slightly, before sighing, putting his hands together as he looked at Meilius. "...No, actually, I think many of them do have other choices." He finally states. "I could say that if I didn't do it, some other assassin could do the job. I might even say that these people might end up hurting more people if I took that chance. But that's really not what it's all about."
Lan looked down a little. "These people did bad things, and they didn't look for help. I think I'd be fine if some of them found a way to be better people, but that's... not really something I can do. I'm not good at the whole 'talking to people', thing, y'know?" Lan would admit.
"...Frankly, before I picked up assassination, I was actually a pretty big loser." Lan will admit. "...This is the one thing I'm any good at. And... well, at the end of the day... well, it used to be all the same, anyways." Lan would sheepishly admit, gazing just a little too long at Meilius's chest, where he struck, before promptly looking away with a faint shade of red going over his cheeks. "I guess people living after death sort of messes with that whole assured mortality idea, huh?"
And with a shake of his head, Lan would add. "...I don't mean to say I'm a good person for doing it, either. I hope I didn't make it sound like I really feel like this is an okay profession. Assassination isn't what good people do. But it lets me stop bad people from doing bad things to others. And..."
Lan looked to himself with a look of slight bitterness. "...Well, it's the only thing I ever really enjoyed doing as jobs go. It let me break off from what my family's doing, and, well, with their reputation I really doubt I'd ever be allowed to keep a regular job anyways." Lan would add, a slight bitter tone entering his voice as he mentioned his family.

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan Lan did not even bother to defend himself. He listed a few ways in which he could have deflected blame from him to paint himself as the hero in his story, but he simply did not. The blue haired boy conceded that the job of an assassin is nothing glamorous - it involves murder, sometimes where murder isn't even the only solution, even if it, ultimately, stops the villains of the world from doing heinous crimes. To convince someone to change their ways and reform for the better is the best possible solution and Lan agreed to that - he simply was not equipped with the charisma necessary. And Meilius certainly believed that. When not acting as a stone cold killer, Lan was a complete mess who was more amusing than inspirational. The blonde Revenant leaned forward and reached over the table to pat the blue-haired assassin on the shoulder - all while striking an apologetic smile. All's good. It's the thought that counts, and Lan has clearly shown that he is not being actively malicious. Retreating back to his seat, Meilius resorted to sign language in order to ask again: What about your family?

Lan's smile perked up a bit at Meilius's own smile, as the stress on his heart released. Meilius was a really good guy, but Lan was more than afraid he'd leave after hearing Lan's terrible reasoning. It wouldn't be the first failed attempt at friendship he'd ever faced, but... it really wouldn't have hurt any less.
My fam... oh! Um..." Lan's smile fell a little as he winced. "I'm, well, I'm a Cameo, and the Cameos, uhhh... Kind of own one of the larger sections of the Italian Mafia. They're a bunch of really strong gangsters. Mostly." He'd say. "One of the things that's weird about me is that I, uhh, don't actually have a job within the family business proper. Only me and Prima have managed that one."
Lan would scratch behind the back of his head. "It's a bit of a weird thing, 'cause I was already weird just for, uhhh... being me, as the family went. they're not mean to me, but... I don't really agree with everything they do, and they were, uhm, a bit enthusiastic about protecting me, growing up..." Lan would add, sighing, before he continued.
"I got bullied a lot in school, but it was... never the same bullies for long, ya know? There was a lotta 'accidents.'. So I went to live with Cousin Prima in Japan to, well, avoid more accidents, and she was nice enough not to, but her and I are kind of the only independent part of the whole Cameo family nowadays. I mean, I was asked to come back and get a job with them, but... I decided not to, y'know?" He'd add, before shaking his head. "I don't think the mafia does all bad things, but they do a whole lot of bad things and I don't want to be part of it... but it means that, just 'cause I'm a Cameo..."
Lan trailed off.
"Well, 'cause I'm a Cameo, that means I've got a price on my head. And a lot of legitimate organizations will do everything in their power to stop me from getting anywhere in life." He admitted. "...So this is sort of one of the few things I have left I can't be restricted from."

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: CORPSE Sector I Tags: lan The Cameo in Lan's name stood for the Cameo family, who, as it turns out, were a famous gangster family in Italy. Meilius had never heard of them before - he grew up on the other side of Europe, after all - but the picture of what this might have looked like immediately popped into his head. Stuff from the Godfather and other mafia films came to mind - a heavily romanticized life, but Lan did not agree with much of it and ultimately ran away. He declined all of his family's offers to work for them and ended up as an assassin instead - which didn't sound like he made it very far from the criminal underworld, but... guess it's a start. Don't worry, I believe you're not like them. Meilius assured the blue haired human with a few hand gestures, then folded his arms and stared at the distance, recalling his experiences with his own family. Merely recalling them got his face to shroud somewhat. My family didn't care much for me, really. I still liked them, but they cared for my sister more than they did for me. She was a genius and I'm just a mute. I don't even know if they still remember that I used to exist...
