Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock Ever since first being inducted into CORPSE and assigned to its Sector III, Meilius awaited the time he'd be able to participate on a mission himself. Sure, he might be young, inexperienced, and crippled by his birth defect in many of the activities which an agent such as himself was expected to do, but it was not going to bring him down. He's got something to prove! He's got to be help somewhere! And, finally, the Universe smiled upon him. A mission with open slots appeared on the CORPSE board, and even though it was originally designated for agents from Sector I, a lack of available manpower forced the high command to open slots to agents from other Sectors - an opportunity which Meilius took on with an instant burst of enthusiasm. That was exactly what he had been waiting for, all along! Worry over whether he'd be of any use to the mission only came later. It was a questioning and observation mission, and Meilius obviously could do nothing to help the other. Maybe he'd help ward off anything supernatural which might come the team's way? Ah... but Captain Vulture said that he's not even fit to be a good Squad III agent, either... So what's his plan then?.. Well, at least CORPSE had something for him to do. As it turns out, Revenants from other Sectors were not the only ones who were given the golden opportunity to join the heist in Bulgaria - "external contractors", that is, non-members of CORPSE who nonetheless maintained contact with the organization, knew about Revenants and were able to lend their abilities, whether for money, for fame or for contacts. One of such "external contracts" was a mysterious... person, going by the alias "Warlock". An anonymous genius scientist, known to society only across the Internet, yet making waves across the scientific community with their skills in mathematics and numerous other fields of natural science. Whoever they may be, CORPSE has made contact with them and their name now rests on the mission log for the impending Bulgarian heist. To adequately provide their support, however, this "Warlock" cannot just be a masked head in the screen, they will need to join CORPSE agents in person - and this is where Meilius joins in. As a rather fresh Revenant, from a sub-species whose appearance does not drastically change upon transformation, he was a fine option for someone to head out to human society and meet the contractor in order to escort them to headquarters, as he'd be able to blend in without that much issue. Which is why the teen blonde Deogen was now slowly making his way through the massive halls and corridors of Hitrou Airport, in London, trying to avoid contact with any of the thousands of people passing by him, lest they notice that he looks a little too pale. The "contractor" was informed to look for mist - settling around the ground, not dense enough to a point where it would worry the average person, but noticeable nonetheless. Meilius, on the other hand, was searching through faces in case any one of them bore the intimidating mask he saw on the web...

Meilius Varkala “That will be all. I hope you all have a good time the rest of the conference.” Marika said in Warlock’s voice, a deep baritone. She then pressed a button on the keyboard that was affixed to her gaming seat’s armrest and she leaned down to look away from the camera that was pointing diagonally downwards from the ceiling, and she removed her golden mask and and hood from her head. She checked her phone - and saw the reminder to get to the airport to be picked up to get to this CORPSE thing she had signed up for. She nodded to herself and soon got her luggage case in her hand, and was out of her apartment. —*— Once at the airport, she looked around for anyone that might have qualified for the description that she had been given - some person with mist at their feet. A Rev, for sure, Marika thought. Without much care to hide her identity, because she heavily suspected that CORPSE knew who she was already anyways (why would they accept her application to help out otherwise? Warlock could’ve just been a CGI character for all they knew), she was out without her mask. Besides, she was aware of the secrecy that surrounded their operatives, so she assumed that the same confidentiality would extend to herself, hopefully. It wasn’t like she could really hide her real appearance in person like she could on just a webcam and a mask, anyways. She passed by the airport cafes and lobbies - and then, there she saw him. Her brother. Her cheeks got redder, her eyes widened with endeared excitement and she didn’t have enough composure to realize that he was actually the mist guy. Instead, she rushed over to him, as quickly as her oversized, bouncy self could go, seemingly smuggling yoga balls under her huge stretchy shirt with a cat meme horribly warped over the immense size. Like a freight train at full speed, she’d ram into her brother and potentially knock him over as she’d collide in for a hug. “M-Melius!” she’d stammer and attempt to rub her cheeks into his. “I-I haven’t seen you in so long!” “H-how have you been?” she’d add and try to give his face a good look. He seemed... short? Shorter than she expected him to be, anyways. Shouldn’t he have grown during the time they have been separated? Despite her genius, she was still human, and was irrationally clinging onto the assumption that her dearest brother wasn’t dead yet. “Have y-you been eating well?!” she asked, her anger for her parents starting to swell within her. They haven’t been feeding him right! She’d then start to rub her cheeks into his further, insistently smearing her face into his and hum dearly.

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock Having returned to the world of the living, even if only for a brief period of time, Meilius never considered the possibility that he could stumble across people he knew in his past life. He was in London and his family lived on the other side of Europe, after all, and so did the few friends he once had - none of them would have had any reason to show up here. Unless he were actively searching for them, the chance of him getting unveiled were effectively nil, so he didn't even bother with masking himself... Which meant that, when a well endowed and well familiar girl suddenly tore through the crowd and lunged straight at him, Meilius froze in shock, leaving himself defenseless to Marika's trap. Getting squeezed by his younger sister was a childish experience which he had gotten used to during his childhood, and yet had almpst forgotten during the past year or two - dragged into it once again, however, he did the same thing he'd always do. That is, flail uncontrollably, like a cat suddenly woken up from sleep and dragged into someone's arms. And, as always, it was a completely ineffective defense - Marika squeezed him, held onto his cheeks, expressed how much she's missed him and how odd he looked. Even she in her frenzy could tell that something was amiss with her brother - and, indeed, she's missed a lot ever since she suddenly vanished from their household one day. Like his death. Even if he wasn't bound by the oath of secrecy which all Revenants under CORPSE were supposed to uphold... how could he even explain something like that? That he was run over by a car, yet survived as an entity in the valley between life or death, with superhuman abilities to boot? And was now inducted into an entire organization of such creatures? And he still had to search for this "Warlock", too, he couldn't waste his time reuniting with his sister no matter how much he's missed her. Meilius pushed himself off Marika's tight hug to give himself some space and, in response to her question on not being fed, simply shook his head and made a few gestures with his hand - a simple sentence in sign language to say I am doing fine. Anything more complex than that and Marika probably won't understand it, he hasn't talked to her that often. So, instead, he pulled out a pen and notebook and put down a few sentences there to explain himself: I'll try to explain everything later.
I don't have much time, I'm searching for someone.
Sorry.

Meilius VarkalaMarika took a moment to remember the sign language and read the note, and as she looked back up to look at him, he was already leaving. "-I could help!" she told him, eager to stay with him, and started to jog behind him and try to keep her eyes on him through the crowd, looking for any trace of him- And that's when she realized the faintest mist behind him. MistJust like the Rev she was supposed to meet up with. "No way." she told herself with a faint chuckle. This was some kind of crazy coincidence, but the facts seemed to add up. He fit the description of the person she was looking for, and he seemed to be looking for someone himself too. All of the pieces matched. She then jogged a bit quicker and she rose a hand. "You're looking for a guy with a gold mask, right?" she called out, fairly loudly, causing a few people to turn towards her (plenty of people were already staring at her, though). She would then march closer to her brother and invade his personal space once more to grab his hand. "You're looking for Warlock, right?" she would then insist in a smaller, intimate voice. The girl would then point to herself with her thumb and chuckle a bit more as her lower eyelids arced up with glee. " I am Warlock." she declared to him. She then tried to imitate the low, softwared baritone that the masculine Warlock talked in: "I am Warlock. Winner of the Fields Medal, creator the Warlock Algorithm." She then chuckled a bit more and cleared her throat as it put quite a lot of strain on her vocal cords to try to force her voice that way. It was far from identical from the actual, real voice of Warlock, but she hoped that he would get the idea. "I've got the mask in my luggage case. Hold on." she would then say, and, just spontaneously and in the middle of this hallway of the airport, would drop down to open her case and browse through the clothing to then show the mask somewhat discreetly behind the flap of the case. "See?" she then stated, and would abruptly zip the case shut again, and stand up with it. "I'm so glad tha-" the girl then said, but then, her face showed immediate grim. Her eyes were wide open, her pupils shivering, staring into some nowhere past her brother. Those pupils then bolted to the other blonde teenager. "Y-you're... a Revenant!?" she hissed, and immediately grabbed his cheeks, and then his forehead as if to check for fever. She was checking his body temperature. Then, she took a good look at his feet. The slithers of mist were there. "Y-you're immortal!" she then declared with glee, managing to surpass the pain of him having died with the fact that this new state of being was actually very convenient. In fact, most of her research has been to deliberately turn people into this kind of thing, because it seemed just better than being a plain human. "Aaaah!" she then squealed and hugged him again, and continued to rub her face into his once more like she did before. "There's so much to catch up on, Melly!"

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock How could this have been a greater coincidence? He's made his way to London, a city he's never been in before, in search of a CORPSE contractor, and somehow finds his sister right then and there. Even as Meilius stepped away from Marika, with the girl following in tow, the thought continued to linger in his head. Was this really a coincidence? The answer soon arrived. Marika disspelled any other guess which he might have had - it was no coincidence. She suddenly ran up to her brother and, caring little for either of their secrecy, announced whether it was "Warlock" he had been searching all along. The first strike out of many. Trying his best to not overwhelm his mind with questions on how Marika could have possibly know that, Meilius merely nodded - at which point his sister proudly announced that she was the masked, anonymous genius he was searching all along. She even went as far as to imitate his gravelly voice and open her bag to reveal the golden mask the mysterious contractor would wear at all times. But... How?.. Before that could even get addressed, Marika's ecstatic mind went to something else. She clearly wasn't initially aware of who specifically was out to extract her, but she quickly put two and two together and realized that her brother was now a Revenant. An undead immortal, a superhuman, a fact which the girl accepted with surprising glee - even going as far as to tightly hug him again. And, once again, Meilius flailed at the unexpected affection. God, the two of them were raising so much of a fuss in the middle of the airport that he wouldn't even be surprised if the security came to escort them away... Meilius pulled himself out of his sister's hug a second time, then placed a finger on his lips and waved at the crowds of people passing by them from each and every side. He pulled up his notebook and tapped his finger on the first sentence he wrote on the page: " I'll try to explain everything later.". Finally, he pulled out his pen again and wrote a brief question at the bottom.

She nodded, and then looked around, finding plenty of people looking at them. “We should probably get through the airport security and stuff already.” she mentioned and pointed in the direction towards it. “Less people.” The girl would then attempt to lead him towards it, all while continuing to pull him against her even if he was pulling away. “So... how did it happen?” she asked as she leaned her head to a side, and combed a tassle of thick blonde hair out of her face. “You’re so lucky that you managed to get Rev’d!” “...And yes. Being Warlock is why I left.” she said. “I wanted to... do my own thing.” Meilius Varkala

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock At least Marika managed to follow through on Meilius's worries that they really weren't in the place to talk about something as secret as Revenants and CORPSE. With the Deogen in tow, the girl began to make her way out of the stupified and confused crowds - thankfully, for the absolute majority of them, they key words they threw around didn't ring any bells. For all they knew, the two of them might have been very avid fans of some animated show. Marika kept latching onto her brother being a Revenant, however - which was a source of excitement for her more than anything. She event went as far as to declare that he was "lucky" for having transformed into one. He certainly didn't feel lucky when he got hit by a truck and was forced to flee from his family household... He's really not going to be able to keep his sister silent at least until they get to the jet to North America, is he? Might as well try explaining himself now... Hastening his pace, Meilius would try to lead Marika towards one of the numerous benches scattered across the airport's halls for people waiting for their plane and needing a rest. At the same time, he pulled up a new page on his notebook and began writing: I guess it started when I heard shooting, ran into a street and

Which is when he suddenly stopped, his pen scratching across the page and leaving a thick black mark running across it. All this time, he had yet to bring up something really important. I guess it started when I heard shooting, ran into a street and
How do you know about Revenants??

Meilius VarkalaMarika nodded and then chuckled softly once she read the last note she was shown. “Mom and dad are into occult stuff, right?” she started off. “Well. They wanted to use me as a tool for that research stuff - to help them with the harder stuff, you know? And while studying the stuff that they got for me, I found a lot about Revs. So yeah. That’s how I know.” Once they got to the security check and after a couple awkward moments of Marika trying to squeeze herself through the sensor gates, she’d get back to being glued to her brother. “But yeah.” she said. “So, you’re in CORPSE, yes? In what division? Have they done anything to you? Do you have a contract and health insurance? Dental? I mean, I guess you don’t need insurance and welfare stuff if you’re immortal... but you never know! Don’t let CORPSE screw you with these things!”

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock While the two Varkala children made their way through airport security and the sensor gates, Marika continued explaining her past with the Revenant phenomenon, casually stating that their parents dabbled in the occult and enrolled her in the discipline, and through this study she learned a lot about Revenants and what made them tick. Meilius immediately raised his finger in confusion, his face frozen in shock. Since when was that supposed to be common knowledge? His parents were definitely not the most stable people in the world, even he with his barebones knowledge of what they did when not running a business could tell that... and he had a hunch that they, much like his uncle, were connected to the spiritual world, somehow. But that they knew about Revenants, taught Marika about them, and researched into the occult themselves... how was he supposed to know that? Before he could even start bothering Marika over that question, the girl began barraging him with more and more. How is he doing in CORPSE? Which sector did he fall into (and how she knew about the sectors of CORPSE was beyond him, too)? How good were the amenities which the organization provided to him? It was standard behavior for Marika, and even though Meilius acted like he was annoyed by the constant worry and her physical affection, in truth... it was one of those things which he actually missed. At least it reassured him that he was not going to remain alone in his life. The Revenant pointed to one of the jets lined up outside of the window, an unmarked one distant from all the jumbo jets accepting passengers in order to not raise suspicion. North America is their target from here on out. With directions given, he pulled out his notebook and, after a few seconds of thinking how to describe his time in CORPSE until today, began writing: It's been alright so far. Beats living on the street by a long mile. They haven't done anything to me, as far as I know at least.
._
They don't see me as worthy though, as if I'm only here because of a mistake

"Not being worthy" was an alien concept to Marika. Sure, she had an idea of what it was, but she was generally so obscenely blessed in most things she attempted that the idea that someone would put themselves in a situation where they weren't talented seemed weird and foreign. She pulled the lad in for another short squeeze. "Don't worry, Melius!" she said and then slightly tilted her head and pointed up, all very matter-of-factly. "Just find something you're great at instead!" she said. "Like-" Her mouth remained opened for a couple of moments as she thought of things her brother would be good at, but she was going blank on it. "I'm sure there's something you're very good at!" she then said, and put a hand on his shoulder and kept a smile. Marika soon got herself towards the boarding area of the plane that had been arranged for them, and after going through the last checks with the clerks at the entrance of the bridge, the huge girl got through and would wait for Melius so that they could travel down the last hallway that would lead to the plane itself. "Besides." she then said. "You don't have to be a CORPSE agent, right? Heck, you could work over the Internet and nobody would ever know that you're actually a Rev. It's not too big of a deal, heh. Don't worry, Mellie." Meilius Varkala

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock Even if the two Varkala siblings really didn't know each other all that well, the way Marika took his confession about being treated like a useless nobody didn't inspire confidence to Meilius. She tried to act motivational, but when the time came for her to express in what exactly he was capable of more than others, she stayed silent. It stung, because unlike Meilius, his sister really was exceptional. The "Warlock" she masqueraded as was known as a genius mathematician and researcher, and she herself had apparently dabbled in the occult and learned about the world of the spiritual from her parents. Even before he came to know of those two things, he recalled many, many times when their father and mother pointed out just how different their children were. Their firstborn was a failure, a mute sent off to study under Dad's brother, and their secondborn was a success, who can help make them a name worldwide. And then Marika essentially states that all he's worth for in the end is just baseless encouragement of finding "something he's really good at". Or applying himself to do... something... on the Internet. Meilius's eyes turned to the side, his expression pensive and trailing across the floor. Right as he made his way out of the boarding area, Marika expressed exactly that, stating that . Before his death, he'd only go on the Internet to play the occasional flash games and MMOs. After his death, it never once came to his mind. Meilius took a deep sigh and shrugged. Whether he was in CORPSE or not really wasn't the crux of the issue for him, but he opted to not explain himself any further. His sister was clearly excited to see him again and he didn't want to ruin it with any drama. He pointed to the plane they were heading towards, again. You know everything you need about the mission we're heading to, right?

“Yeah.” she replied and hugged him again. She could sense that something was troubling her brother, but she couldn’t really exactly put her finger onto it. Was CORPSE treating him poorly? Did he break up with his girlfriend recently (did he ever have a girlfriend?). She had no idea, she could only scratch the surface of his body language. Despite being his sister, that was just the extent that her understanding of him reached. They finally got to the jet, and she squeezed herself down to one of the seats, pull away the armrest and then pushed the two seat’s backrest as far as it would go to be more comfortable as she occupied both. “I wonder if I’ll become a Rev too at some point.” she asked herself out loud, and then would turn to Meilius. “Was it painful for you?” She knew well of the age-freezing factor of becoming a Rev. It was still a couple more years before she was at her physical prime, but time was nonetheless running out. Could she reliably, and safely, turn herself into one of those? Ageless immortality, or living 70 or so more years as a mere mortal? The choice seemed obvious to her. The only problem was how reliable the gamble would be for her. But. What if there was a way to go back? She could swap between the two states, perhaps. “Hey, Melly. If you could… would you try to become… human, again?” she asked. Being a Rev seemed to be simply strictly superior to not being one, but she was curious about his answer nonetheless. Maybe he had his reasons. Meilius Varkala

Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock The two Varkala siblings made their way to their private jet, courtesy of CORPSE and ready to take them straight to the organization's main headquarters in North America. Meilius took the seat by the window and strapped on to his seat rather quickly, but his sister took a longer time to get comfortable, what with her utterly enormous chest and all. As soon as she got everything down, Marika immediately dropped a new question - was transforming into a Revenant a painful process to him? She certainly appeared enthused by the prospect of becoming one herself one day. Meilius's thoughts went back to that painful night, and the crushing, nightmarishly painful agony he felt while mangled underneath the wheels of a passing truck. The memory alone got the teenager to shudder and respond to the question with a nod. There were many ways how a person in the midst of death could become a Revenant, and he could only assume that some of them were less painful than others... but it was still something he wouldn't wish for his worst enemy. Which, somewhat indirectly, perhaps, led to Marika's next question, one which left Meilius pondering. If he could somehow return back to life, would he do it? He... wasn't sure. On one hand, Revenance gave him a whole slew of powers which finally gave him some, albeit barebones, direction in life - to use that powers in some way to help others. He's never felt more alone since becoming a Revenant than ever before in his life, however... all the people he used to know have since vanished to him, replaced by an organization which, albeit inviting, nonetheless felt cold and not that inviting. Even Marika showing up and becoming a bridge between the life he has lost and the immortality he has yet to make use of was essentially a freak accident... Meilius stared through his window, thinking, while the private jet took off - then finally slipped a small paper to Marika.

Marika chuckled. “Perhaps” she replied. “We still don’t know the full extent of the consequences of being a Rev, so it might be good to have a plan B in case things go down the shitter.” Then, she shrugged. “But so far it seems really convenient. Immortality, not needing to eat, all of that stuff.” Marika then looked out of the window and saw the plane start to soar into the air and elevate itself up and up, further into the clouds until it was zooming across airspace. She sighed. “It would be curious if the next step for humanity is to turn everyone into Revs.” she stated. “And with genetic modification already in full swing, there isn’t really much of a point for the conventional norms of reproduction. As arrogant as it seems, humanity is now the master of life and death. Or will soon be.” The girl then tried to get herself out of the seat, and struggled a bit, but then opted not to. She wanted to go to the bathroom, but was skeptical that she would be able to actually fit through its narrow door even if she managed to pull herself out of where she was now. She sighed, and figured that she could just hold herself and go when they reached the ground eventually or something. "So... You're not going to school anymore?" she asked. "You don't want to go to uni and get a career? It's just CORPSE for you from now on?" She then tilted her head and looked to a side. "Well. You are immortal, so... I guess there really is no rush." Meilius Varkala Silent Revenant Location: Heathrow Airport Tags: Warlock Marika remained enthusiastic about Revenants, and decided to take her view of them in a more scientific direction - to her, what interested her was less the fact that they were creatures stuck in a state between life and death and more that they were immortal, superhuman beings whom normal humans could become so easily. All they need to do... is to die. And Marika clearly wanted to subjugate this phenomenon and turn it universal - to her, it was a noble goal to grant immortality to all of humanity and finally defeat death. To Meilius, it sounded like she wanted to murder all of humanity and hope that whatever method she discovers of securely turning them into Revenants works. The teenager lifted his finger and was about to protest, but opted to not raise that much of a fuss. He didn't even know how Revenants and all that pertained to them work, really. All he knew was that he had to suffer a really painful death in order to achieve it. Marika soon raised a yet another topic - what's going to happen to his education? Is he not going to try to enroll in university and try to make himself a career? Or, at least, finish school? That... That was a good question. I'm dead, so I assume my name got stricken out of the school list.
|
It did make him wonder on how his school was taking his disappearance. Even if the students and most of the teachers cared little for the mute blonde boy, surely the news of his death must have shaken them. If they even knew of his death. He never left a body, after all. Stopping for a few seconds, Meilius thought to himself before continuing to write. Even if it wasn't, CORPSE has codes of secrecy and everything for important purposes
They have study programs on the side for younger Revenants like me, so I've been studying there
